Getting to Know the History of the Wings of Love

Before getting to know the Wings of Love orphanage, we first got to know the Manuel Runtu Foundation, which was founded by accident. Its activities were started in September 1985 by Br. Han Gerritse, CSD a missionary from the Netherlands. In 1993 a religious man returned to the Netherlands. Before he left he asked the founder of Yamaru to pay attention and help 10 disabled children who live around his house. Founder Yamaru accepted the request gladly and extended the attention and assistance to more than 400 children scattered throughout Minahasa. To help visit these children at their home, Br. Han received help from a lay leader, Mrs. Michelle Borsboom, who has the same concern for disabled children.

Because the home visits were not very satisfying, they started to think about how the assistance could be more intensive, so they established an orphanage which was started construction in 2001 to 2003 and named ‘SAYAP KASIH’. Wings: protect/nurturing. Love: treatment for the ‘little’. Wings of Love: Nurturing with love. Until now, the Panti Wings of Love, which is located in Woloan 3 sub-district, kec. West Tomohon is allowed to accommodate 25 children who have multiple disabilities, mental and physical.

At the beginning of 2022, we also focus on the foundation’s movement in external services (Homevisit and Home care) for our younger siblings / friends / relatives / I with disabilities who do not receive enough attention who are in remote areas that are difficult to reach and help out. Come with us we help our younger siblings / friends / relatives / I.

Together accompanying them so that they too can be like our younger siblings / friends / relatives / I with other disabilities who can enjoy this life properly. Let’s together paint their every moment with the colors of life so that their world will be more colorful.

• Briefing method

Volunteers will be contacted 2 days after registration closes. More complete information regarding the briefing and activities will be informed via registered E-mail or WhatsApp. Joint activities will begin in the second week of November.

• Purpose and objectives

1. Trying to help relieve the mental, psychological and socio-economic burden of community members/families who have family members with multiple disabilities.
2. Trying to provide services by training / helping to reactivate the remaining abilities that exist in the client to the fullest.
3. Participate in supporting and succeeding the Government Program in the development of the Social Welfare Sector, through Services/Support for Persons with Multiple Disabilities

• Target

Children, both male and female, who suffer from mental and physical disabilities (severe).

• Abbreviations and Meaning (Name of disability)

1. CP (Cerebral Palsy): irregularities / disturbances in posture caused by brain damage.
2. TPS (Tetra Parase Spatic): paralysis of all 4 limbs.
3. Spastic: stiff.
4. Hemiplegia: weakness in the upper (arm) and lower (leg) limbs on one side.
5. Diplegia: weakness in both legs.
6. Monoplegy: weakness in one limb.
7. Qudriplegia : a form of CP in which both arms and legs are involved.
8. TW (Deaf) : can’t talk.
9. TN (blind): can’t see.
10. CL: birth defects.
11. Hyperactive: uncontrollable motion.
12. hydrocephalus: big head (fluid in the head).
13. MR/RM/Retmen (Mental Retardation/Mental Retardation): people whose IQ is below a certain number usually cannot adapt to the environment without outside control/assistance.
